Mainstreaming of Private Agricultural Education in India

The National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) initiated a dialogue on mainstreaming of private agricultural education under Component 2A. The dialogue between representatives of Vice Chancellors and Deans of Shobith University, Lovely Professional University, Malla Reddy University, IFTM, GLA University, Quantum University and Anurag University and officials of ICAR and  NAHEP took place under the Chairmanship of Dr R C Agrawal, Deputy Director General, Agricultural Education on 25th March 2022  at KAB-II, New Delhi.  Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director NAARM reiterated that sustainable food systems through agricultural education should be at the centre stage, while Dr. Rajendra Parsad, IASRI  laid emphasis on introduction of a new course on agri- informatics. The programme was organized by ICAR- NAARM, Hyderabad.

The major deliberation are related to setting the agenda for upcoming ‘National Workshop on Agricultural Education in Private Universities in India: Lets Listen to Stakeholder’, apart from major issues confronting the private universities viz. norms for setting up new colleges and accreditation etc.

Dr R C Agrawal, DDG categorically indicated that both private and public universities imparting agricultural education have a major role in enhancing the quality and relevance of agricultural education on mutual sharing strengths and expertise. Online International Webinar on Fostering Global Collaboration concludes at NAARM

The ICAR-NAARM organised an Online International Webinar on “Fostering Global Collaboration among Agricultural Higher Educational Institutions” under NAHEP during 08th and 09th November 2021, in collaboration with IASRI. The programme evidenced the participation of more than 200 participants of senior level across several State Agricultural Universities, National Coordinators, NAHEP Component 2 team and other ICAR officials.

The webinar focused on development of global collaboration among Agricultural Higher Education Institutions and deliberated on opportunities and challenges, sustainability, impact, global mobility and exchange, implementation of global partnerships, framework for fostering global collaborations etc. The renowned educationists & agricultural researchers and NAHEP External Advisory Panel members across the globe (four from the USA, one from Australia and six from India) participated in the webinar. The Vice Chancellors SAUs shared their experiences on how to establish and sustain global collaborations between universities.

Dr R. C. Agrawal, DDG (Agril. Education), ICAR & ND, NAHEP emphasised   on the internationalisation of agricultural education, aligning to National Educational Policy, human resource development and multi global practices etc. Mr. Bekzod Shamsiev, Task Team Leader, World Bank in his address suggested to utilise the World Bank’s network across different countries to foster global collaborations. Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, NAARM presided the inaugural programme and Dr Rajender Parshad, Director IASRI, presided valedictory programme.

Third NAHEP External Advisory Panel Meeting held on Wednesday, 10 Nov 2021

The ICAR – NAARM has organised 3rd Meeting of External Advisory Panel, constituted under NAHEP to provide the ICAR/NAHEP with agenda to appraise the progress and formulate the way forward for the achievement of the overall objective of NAHEP i.e. enhancing the quality and relevance of agricultural education. The panel comprised renowned education and agricultural experts – six from India, three from the USA and one from Australia.

The online meeting was chaired by Dr R C Agrawal, National Director and DDG (Education). This programme was coordinated by Dr D Thammi Raju, Co-PI of NAHEP, Component 2, ICAR-NAARM and he discussed the agenda of this meeting for External Advisory Panel. Dr S K Soam, CCPI, NAHEP Component 2, ICAR-NAARM welcomed all the members of the programme and briefly presented about NAARM progress.

Dr. R.C. Agrawal, National Director, NAHEP and DDG (Agril. Edu.) requested the External Advisory Panel to guide the ICAR pertaining to issues viz. how to bring transformative changes in agricultural education in tune with National Education Policy, interaction of global universities for globalization of agricultural education, collaboration with national, international and government departments, private sector, and sustainability of NAHEP efforts. During the meeting the External Advisory Panel members viz. Dr Brajesh Singh, Dr Glen C Shinn, Dr K V Raman, Dr P L Gautam, Dr J C Katyal, Dr P K Joshi, Dr B Venkateswarlu, Dr Tanuja Nesari participated and gave valuable suggestions and guidance in the improving the agricultural education in the country.

The special invitees viz. Dr Rajender Parshad, Director of IASRI and Dr G Venkateshwarlu, Joint Director of NAARM also participated and suggested various measures. Earlier the members were appraised about the progress of NAHEP by Dr Prabhat Kumar and Dr Hema Tripathi, the National Coordinators of NAHEP and Dr Sudeep Marwaha, PI of Component 2A.

The panel provided high-quality inputs and suggestions to take the NAHEP further for excellence viz. asynchronous learning, enhancing the visibility of agricultural universities, sustainability, digital platforms for education, quality of faculty competency, systemic reforms, the institutionalisation of best educational practices, cooperation and collaboration, more communication in policy, management of change etc.

Virtual Training Workshop on “Effective Implementation of Social Safeguard Plans” concludes at ICAR-NAARM

The Virtual Training Workshop on Effective Implementation of Social Safeguard Plans” organized by the ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad from 23rd to 24th July, 2021 concluded today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad stressed on the importance of awareness for social justice plans in the Institutions for the weaker sections like Differently-abled Persons. He also emphasized on implementing the part of these social safeguard activities at the organization level.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Hema Tripathi, National Coordinator, National Agricultural Higher Education Project, M&E and ESS highlighted the importance and status of the Social Safeguard activities and Equity Action Plans performed in 58 NAHEP Institutions throughout the country.

The workshop organized as a part of the World Bank-sponsored National Agricultural Higher Education Project Component-2A was aimed at developing the awareness on the meaning, need and importance of the Social Safeguard Plans in the International Research Projects.

Around 39 participants including the Deans, Directors and Faculty Members of the State Agricultural Universities from 13 States participated in the training workshop.

NAHEP External Advisory Panel Meeting organised by ICAR- NAARM

The ICAR – NAARM has organised 1st Meeting of External Advisory Panel, constituted under NAHEP to provide the ICAR/NAHEP with knowledge, strategic thinking and innovative approaches for higher education, in the long and short term higher education. The panel comprised renowned education and agricultural experts – six from India, three from the USA and one from Australia.

The online meeting was chaired by Dr R C Agrawal, National Director and DDG (Education) held on 13 Oct 2020. The members are appraised about the progress of NAHEP by Dr P Ramasundaram, Dr R  B Sharma, Dr Prabhat Kumar and Dr Hema Tripathi, the National Coordinators of NAHEP.

Dr. R.C. Agrawal, National Director, NAHEP and DDG (Agril. Edu.) while highlighting the success of NAHEP on different fronts and its preparedness for new educational policy, flagged important issues for improving the quality and relevance of agricultural education and sought guidance from Dr P L Gautam, Dr J C Katiyal, Dr P K Joshi, Dr B Venkateswarlu from NARES and Dr Pankaj Mittal of Association of Indian Universities and Dr JLN Sastry of Ministry of Ayush, GOI and Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, NAARM. The meeting also witnessed the presence of Dr Glen C Shinn of Texas A&M University and Dr David Kraybill of Ohio State University.

Online Training Workshop on Education Management and Academic Leadership concluded at NAARM under NAHEP

The ICAR – NAARM has organised an Online Training Workshop on “Education Management and Academic Leadership” from 3rd to 17th September, 2020 with an objective to enhance the efficiency of Indian Agricultural Education System under NAHEP – Component 2.

Forty-five enthusiastic administrators and senior faculty of agricultural universities including 10 lady participants from 18 states participated in the online training workshop. During the fifteen-day training programme the participants were provided with theory and practical sessions on various topics related to education management and academic leadership by eminent personalities. An online application was developed to capture session wise reflections of the participants. The members of NAHEP External Advisory Panel i.e. Dr Glenn C Shinn of Texas and A&M and Dr K V Raman of Cornell University also interacted with participants online. The programme was coordinated by Dr D. Thammi Raju and Dr. S. Senthil Vinayagam, of ICAR-NAARM and facilitated by Dr S K Soam, CPI and Joint Director.

Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director ICAR NAARM, the Chief Guest of the valedictory programme highlighted the importance and status of agriculture education system in India. He said education is the miracle to change and bringing relevancy addresses many issues. Dr. Prabhat Kumar National Coordinator of NAHEP Comp 2, the Guest of Honour stressed on the importance of leadership and management in in education system. He also said that life is meant for learning and learning is lifelong two-way process. The programme concluded on 17th September, 2020.
